Richard Plaxco

Richard moved to Sonoma County 31 years ago and started Geared for Growing! He has been successfully designing and building gardens and his business ever since. He aspires to the concept of Fine Gardens for Outdoor Living! He received an AA degree in art and a BS degree in Landscape Design at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He says “I most enjoy working with people and helping them with space planning. A garden should be an expression of your life and an extension of your living space, a place to relax, reflect, and to enjoy the company of others!” He says “I believe we live in one of the most all around beautiful places and it is my obligation to help others make the best of it, enjoy it and to take care of the land they have been blessed with.” He continues to enjoy building his business, traveling anytime and anywhere, hiking, snow skiing, improving his golf game and hanging with his dog, his wife, his daughter and his friends. Not necessarily in that order.

Austin Parnow

Austin Parnow

A Sonoma County native, Austin started his collegiate journey as a film student, but ended it with a degree in Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2004. He has been working for Geared for Growing ever since. From a family of painters (sister, grandmother) and musicians (brother), Austin has created sculpture in both bronze and concrete, but his primary creative outlet is creating outdoor spaces. Passionate about the natural world, Austin tries to incorporate natural processes and aesthetics into his designs, and loves the use of custom water features in the landscape. Originally hired as a designer, he now handles estimating for the company as well. On weekends Austin can be found at local parks, bike paths and ball fields with his three young sons.

Jessica Miller
Enhancement Director/Designer

Jessica Miller moved from the Midwest to Sonoma County in 1995. She grew up living in 6 states including California where she has happily remained. “I have lived in enough places to truly appreciate how special and beautiful Sonoma and neighboring counties are.”  In addition to a lifelong interest in plants, nature and the outdoors, she worked in the nursery business for six years learning about the kinds of trees, shrubs, grasses, vines and flowers  that are best suited to thrive in the multiple microclimates that make Northern California so unique.  Enthusiastic about the concept of edible landscapes she is passionate about the opportunity to inspire people to redefine and beautify their space may it be vast or cozy.  Jessica is thrilled to be working with Geared for Growing as she continues to cultivate an environment of inspiration and new potential.

When she is not in the office she can be found hiking, scrapbooking or chillin’ with her hubby, her daughter, her dog or friends.
