The best patios belong to the architecture, connect naturally to the garden, and are built for years of real use.

The setting
A hillside patio, an established in-town garden, and a broad suburban lot need different answers for grade, drainage, access, scale, and material. We resolve those conditions alongside furniture, circulation, shade, and the planting that makes hardscape feel lived in.
What makes it work
Proportion, circulation, doors, views, furniture, and connections to the rest of the property establish the plan.
Excavation, base, edge conditions, drainage, and finish work are handled by experienced landscape crews.
Planting, irrigation, lighting, kitchens, walls, and steps complete the outdoor environment.
Before you begin
Before choosing pavers or stone for a Santa Rosa patio, examine the existing surface and the water around it. Uneven paving, ponding, and movement near an edge are clues to investigate, not simply cover over. The required excavation and base depend on the actual soil, loading, drainage, and chosen paving system.
For a sloped property, compare a smaller level terrace with a series of connected spaces before committing to extensive earthwork. Steps, retaining elements, and water discharge need to be considered together. Ask which design or permitting questions must be resolved before a construction schedule can be set.
Compare proposals using the same area and material assumptions. Demolition, haul-away, access restrictions, base work, drainage, joint treatment, and adjoining planting can make two similarly sized patios very different projects. Agree on those boundaries and on how unforeseen conditions will be addressed before work begins.
